Sensory Needs

Children can have sensory needs for a variety for reasons - genetic, disease, trauma.  The effect of this is that can display behaviours different to other people.

There are 8 senses that can be affected.  This can be where the person is repelled by something or seek it.  The needs can be used or reduced depending on how it is affecting the child.  For example, if a person seeks movement, squashing, textures; then provide it.  In providing what they seek, the effect can be calm.  If a person gets agitated by noise, sights, smells; then reduce it.  Saying this, if the item can not be reduced then it is possible to increase the person's window of tolerance.
